2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1: Revealed, Officially!

So how do you feel about American supercars? Other than the Saleen S7 I never thought much of what America had to offer. But have you seen the new Corvette from Chevrolet? It still looks American enough but it seems this one is here to compete with the big European players. Still no official word for horsepower or a time 0-60 but it is said that the horsepower is at least 620 and 0-60 in the low three seconds. That's quite impressive, at least in my book. More to be seen in the Detroit auto show this January.

    Tesla Roadster

This year will see the launch of a fully-electric sports car that is both fast and looks amazing. Tesla Roadster prototypes have been able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds, and reach a top speed of over 130 mph. Additionally, the car will be able to travel 245 miles on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery. Now, that sounds like a good deal. Of course it costs about $100,000 and it's only available in the U.S and only left-hand drive so it's not like we are going to see a lot of these on the road but still it's a good start...

    Our solar system is expanding!

I heard this story on the news while I was on holiday and couldn't really believe what I was hearing... 3 new planets? WHAT? Where have they been all this time?! Anyway, it turns out scientists have been working on a definition for a planet and came up with a planet being "an object that orbits the sun but is massive enough for its own gravity to put it into a spherical shape". Apparently, according to this definition, there are 12 planets in our solar system...

Nothing is final yet, but it looks like they might actually go for this... The voting will be held on the 24th of August in Prague...

    25/08/2006 Update:
Well they decided they wouldn't go for the 12 planet thing but to avoid having to add UB313 (Xena) as a planet they had to demote Pluto... so one less planet in our solar system... too bad though, Pluto used to be my favourite...
